Janet Rachel, 2021 – 2023 Chapter President
Janet Rachel, a Human Resources and Diversity Leader, is President of Rachel Consulting Service providing career transition coaching and diversity and inclusion support services.
A recent Vanderbilt University Medical Center retiree, Janet served as a Diversity Consultant in the Office of Diversity & Inclusion and held roles as HR Diversity Consultant and Talent Operations Program Manager for the Medical Center and University. Spearheading their Relocation and Dual Career services, she coached and transitioned hundreds of professionals and served as Founding Director of the Greater Tennesse Higher Education Recruitment Consortium. Janet previously served in Executive Diversity and Human Resources roles with Meharry Medical College, Dell Inc., the Metropolitan Human Relations Commissions, and the State of TN Economic Council for Women. Beginning as a management trainee with First American National Bank after graduating from Tennesse State University, Janet advanced to Senior Vice President, Community Outreach Director, and Workplace Diversity Director, becoming the first African American female on the Executive Committee reporting to the CEO.
A community leader, Janet is passionate about mentoring and advocating for women and the underserved. She was recognized as a “Woman Making History in Tennessee” by the Tennessean, as Nashville CABLE President Janet initiated their strategic focus on diversity and inclusion and served as the first African American to chair the Nashville ATHENA program. Alumni of Leadership Nashville, Janet founded the Nashville Urban Bankers Association, served as Commissioner for the Metro Civil Service and Metro Human Relations Commissions, and as a Middle TN Urban League Board Chair, Minority Business Development Week Chair, and on numerous boards including Bethlehem Center, the Community Foundation, United Way of Middle Tennessee, the YWCA, and Fifty Forward. Recognition and awards include the VUMC MLK Award, CABLE Spirit of Leadership and Power of Inclusion Awards, INROADS Coordinator of the Year, CES Youth about Business, Harriett Tubman Award, and YWCA Diversity Award.
Currently serving on the Nashville CABLE Board as an advisor, Janet is the First Vice President of Programs for the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Metropolitan Nashville Chapter.
